Immune boosting foods



It is important to maintain a healthy diet in order to keep our immune system strong so we can fight off viruses and bacteria that can make us ill.

What foods are good for our immune system?

Ginger

Ginger has antioxidant properties and is good for reducing inflammation and also reducing nausea.

Green tea

Green tea is also rich in antioxidants and helps improve your immune system by increasing white blood cells which fight off infection and other diseases.

Green vegetables

Supergreen vegetables such as spinach and broccoli are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. It is best to steam vegetables rather than boil them to retain as much of the good properties as possible.

Orange and lemons

Citrus fruit is often used to help fight of cold and flu viruses as they are high in vitamin C.

Turmeric

Numeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties making it very good to help boost your immune system.

Yoghurt

Greek and other live and active yoghurts help your immune system as it helps balance the natural bacteria in your body, as well as being loaded with vitamin D.

You can even get more out of your immune boosting yoghurt by adding fresh fruit to it.

Seeds and nuts

Seeds and nuts are full of nutrients and vitamins which help to maintain a healthy immune system through their antioxidant nature.

Other factors that help your immune system

It is also beneficial to your health to not smoke, reduce your alcohol intake and maintain a healthy weight. As well as these your mental health is very important and shouldn't be taken for granted.

Try and get plenty of sleep, reduce your stress levels which can both be helped through regular exercise.
