Fractures and Sprains Around The Hand

Broken finger and thumb bones are common hand injuries, usually resulting from direct trauma or a fall. Usually you would experience bruising, swelling, pain and trouble moving the affected finger or thumb.

If a hand and wrist fracture is diagnosed and treated early, along with rehabilitation exercises, the recovery is usually good. Surgery may occasionally be needed if the break is particualy bad or inadequate therapy and treatment leaves the bone stiff and painful.

Similarly to a broken hand, a sprain can occur when a fall has torn or damaged a ligament in the hand. You may recover well from resting, using ice, a compression dressing and keeping the hand elevated. If it hasn't healed or inflammation is worsening, it is worth getting getting checked over by a professional.
